Is Reddit growing or declining in 2026?

Reddit is growing. Its own reports show more daily users every year, helped by Google and AI answers sending people to Reddit threads.
Reddit is growing. In its second-quarter 2026 results, Reddit reported 130.3 million daily active uniques, up 18% year over year. Much of the new traffic arrives from search: Google shows Reddit threads for a large share of questions, and AI assistants such as ChatGPT cite Reddit discussions in their answers.
Reddit in numbers (2026)
| Metric | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Daily active uniques (Q2 2026) | 130.3 million | Reddit Q2 2026 results |
| Daily users growth, year over year | +18% | Reddit Q2 2026 results |
| Largest regular subreddit | r/funny, about 67.6 million members | Largest subreddits 2026 |
Why Reddit keeps growing
- Search. People add "reddit" to Google searches to get answers from real users, and Google now ranks Reddit threads highly on its own.
- AI answers. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews quote Reddit threads, which sends readers back to them.
- Machine translation, which has opened English threads to non-English speakers.
- Niche communities. Most growth happens in specific subreddits about a job, a product or a hobby, not in the giant default ones.
Is anything declining?
Some things are. Third-party apps mostly shut down after Reddit's 2023 API pricing changes, and tools built on Reddit's API, such as GummySearch, closed. Reddit also stopped showing member counts on subreddit pages. Overall usage, though, is up, not down.
What it means for brands
More people are asking for recommendations on Reddit, and those threads now rank in Google and get quoted by AI. A good answer in the right thread is seen by the poster, by everyone who finds it later, and by the AI tools that summarise it. Find the threads in your niche early with Reddit keyword alerts.
