Twitter keyword alerts: how to get notified when someone tweets a keyword

X will notify you when an account posts, never when a word does. Here is every way around that in 2026, from free to fully automated.

Short answer: X (Twitter) has no keyword alerts. Its notifications follow accounts, not words. To get alerted when someone tweets a keyword you either re-run a saved search, keep a live search column open in X Pro, or use a Twitter monitoring tool that searches for you and sends new matches to email or Slack.

Four ways to get Twitter keyword alerts

MethodCostTruly automaticFilters noise
Saved search on XFreeNo, you re-open itOnly your operators
X Pro (TweetDeck) search columnNeeds X PremiumUpdates live, no notificationOnly your operators
Keyword monitoring toolsAbout $30 to $200/moYes, email or SlackKeyword rules
Intent monitoring (Leadhoot)From $39/moYes, email, Slack or webhookAI reads each post

1. Saved searches (free, manual)

Search your keyword on x.com, open the three-dot menu next to the search bar and choose Save search. It then appears under the search box on every device. It never notifies you, so it only works if you open it daily. Make the query precise first with the X advanced search builder: an exact phrase, -filter:replies and lang:en remove most of the noise.

2. X Pro search columns (paid, live)

X Pro, the product that used to be TweetDeck, lets you pin a search as a column that refreshes on its own. It needs an X Premium subscription and a screen you keep open. Good for a social team watching a launch, not for catching one buyer at 3am.

3. Twitter monitoring tools

Monitoring tools run your searches on a schedule and send new matches to email, Slack or a webhook. Since X started charging for API access, free no-code recipes that used to do this mostly stopped working, so expect to pay.

4. Intent alerts instead of keyword alerts

On X, a common keyword is a firehose. Alert on "CRM" and you get jokes, job posts, launches and vendors, hundreds a day. Intent monitoring reads each matching post and only alerts you when the author is asking for what you sell. You describe your buyer in plain English, Leadhoot searches X and Threads for your phrases and scores every match 0 to 100. Only posts above your threshold reach you.

Describe your buyer once. Leadhoot searches X, Threads and Reddit and alerts you within a minute of a post worth answering.

Get keyword alerts

Which keywords to alert on

  • Buying phrases next to your category: "looking for a", "recommend a", "anyone use", "alternative to".
  • Competitor names next to "switching from", "cancel", "down again" or "too expensive".
  • Your brand and product names, including misspellings and the bare domain.
  • Problems you solve, written the way a customer would complain about them.

Test each phrase in the X advanced search builder first. If the Latest tab is mostly noise, tighten it before you automate it. The full operator list is in Twitter search operators.

Common questions

Not natively. X only notifies you about accounts you follow or turn notifications on for. For keyword notifications you need a saved search you check yourself, an X Pro column, or a monitoring tool like Leadhoot, Syften or Octolens.

Saved searches and the X advanced search are free but manual. Fully automatic alerts need API access, which X charges for, so the reliable tools are paid.

Rarely. Google indexes only a small share of posts on X, often late, so Google Alerts misses most tweets.

Most check every few minutes. Leadhoot alerts within about a minute of a high-intent post, so you can be first in the replies.
